Venue #28: Theatre of Living Arts!

We hope all of you have had a pretty decent day today. Before sharing today's venue, we want everyone to take a moment to mourn the death of beloved 60's heartthrob, Davy Jones. For those who are not aware of who he is, we encourage you to listen to the song "Daydream Believer" at least once or twice....it's magical.

But we must press on and keep sharing love (and great venues.) Today we head back to Philly as we check out Theatre of Living Arts! It's got an intimate feel, a fun history, and located in a great city. What more could we ask for?

Remember, if you like a venue or have any questions/comments for us, please don't hesitate to contact us at BringBDtoEC@gmail.com and let us know what you think! (Please let us know, we want the boys here just as much as you do!)

Peace, Love, & Bonnie Dune!

Since then, it has become Philadelphia’s premiere small concert venue, welcoming up and coming artists from all genres to rock the 1,000 concert goers it is able to hold within its’ walls.

Venue #27: Count Basie Theatre!

I know a lot of us are sad that there's no Glee this week, but it just means more time to look up more fun & interesting venues for everyone!

Today we have another fun NJ venue for you. A lot of history, a great town with many attractions (and shopping), and a fun name. Just for kicks, let's look at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank!

Remember, if you like a venue or have any questions/comments for us, please don't hesitate to contact us at BringBDtoEC@gmail.com and let us know what you think! (Please let us know, we want the boys here just as much as you do!)

Peace, Love, & Bonnie Dune!

Count Basie Theatre:

99 Monmouth Street
Red Bank, NJ 07701
(732) 842-9000
info@countbasietheatre.org

Booking:

Performing artists, ensembles and bands interested in performing at the Count Basie Theatre should send a promotional kit to: Programming Department, Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701, info@countbasietheatre.org. Before sending any materials, artists and managers are encouraged to look at the event listings page on this web site to determine if the theatre actually programs the genre that you or your artist works in.

Promotional kits should include:

-          - an artist bio
-          - black and white or color photos
-         -  an audio or video recording
-         -  recent press clippings and reviews

Promotional materials will not be returned. The theatre receives hundreds of booking submissions each year, and it is not possible to return them all. Therefore, please do not send any originals that cannot be replaced.

The theatre looks at hundreds of artists and ensembles each year to select the handful that will actually be engaged as headliners or opening acts. Finding just the right mix of music, dance and theatre programs each year that can sell 1,550 seats per show is not easy. Even when the theatre is interested in an artist, it may take years to schedule something. Therefore, please do not take it personally when we do not respond to your mailing, please be patient, and please put the theatre's programming staff on your mailing list, so we have a chance to see a "live" performance.

History:

Tony Bennett has called it, “My favorite place.” Art Garfunkel said, “This hall is to a singer what Steinway is to a pianist.” Lyle Lovett said, “This is one of the nicest sounding rooms in the whole United States of America.” The venue is the award winning Count Basie Theatre, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognized by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as a Major Presenting Organization for the State of New Jersey, by Pollstar Magazine as one of the Top 100 Worldwide Theatre Venues, and by Contribute Magazine as one of their Top 200 Investor-Worthy Charities. History:

Built in 1912, The Chance Theater has had a long history as a performing arts venue. It was opened as a vaudeville house called the Dutchess Theatre in 1926. It became the Carol Players Playhouse, then the Playhouse Theatre in 1928. Showing vaudeville and films at the time, the theatre introduced silent film in the 1920′s. The venue changed ownership many times throughout the 1920′s and 1930′s. From 1945 to 1970 the building was closed and was used as a storage facility. In 1970 Larry Plover opened the venue as “Sal’s last Chance Saloon”. Plover turned the old vaudeville theatre into a music venue; welcoming legendary acts such as The Police, The Ramones, Muddy Waters, Pete Seeger and Charles Mingus. Closed again in 1977, Peter Francese re-opened the venue in 1980 under the name “The Chance”. In 1994 current owner, Frank Pallett acquired the legendary music venue. Pallett has brought acts such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Ted Nugent and countless other contemporary and classic rock bands to Poughkeepsie, NY.

Please do not include attachments – if you do, your email will be deleted immediatelyPhysical press kits are discouraged, and no phone calls will be accepted for new bookings. Please note that due to the high volume of submissions, not all emails will receive a response.

Q. Why don’t you book (your favorite artist) to play?
A. Our music department is always looking out to find bands to take the stages here. Please know that many factors affect the artists we can book here, but feel free to email suggestions to booking@worldcafelive.com.

History:

The story of World Cafe Live starts with a coincidence.

As a dedicated concert-goer, Hal Real had become increasingly disenchanted over the years with the smoky rooms, lousy sight lines, tinny acoustics and inadequate seating that have become the standard live music experience.

And then he heard a voice. Specifically, the voice of David Dye, host of a contemporary music program on public radio called World Cafe. On the Cafe Hal heard everything he'd been missing in the clubs: talented artists in a nurturing environment, free from distractions, taking risks and playing their guts out for an appreciative audience.

At the same time, WXPN, where World Cafe is produced, had outgrown its studios and was seeking a new home. And so the moment Hal called the station to propose joining forces was the moment of conception for World Cafe Live.

Hal's company, Real Entertainment Group and WXPN, which is owned and operated by the University of Pennsylvania, have entered into a unique partnership between a for-profit and a non-profit organization. Sharing work space and a common philosophy, WXPN and World Cafe Live have forged what may become a prototype for future relationships between public broadcasters and private enterprise.

Venue #21: Algonquin Arts Theatre!

Did everyone have a great President's Day Weekend? We hope you had as much fun as us, as we gear up to start featuring new venues outside of NYC!

With that said, we're going to change up things a little bit. Instead of featuring just one particular state for the upcoming featured venues, we're going to shuffle them up and show some more variety. So for the next few weeks, be prepared to learn more about venues in the NJ/Philly/NY State area! (And yes, there are a lot of them.)

So let's kick it off this week by taking it to the Jersey Shore! If the boys play during the summer, why not have a venue that's conveniently close to the beach (as well as public transportation) and make a vacation out of it all? Yes, I'm talking about the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan, NJ!

Remember, if you like a venue or have any questions/comments for us, please don't hesitate to contact us at BringBDtoEC@gmail.com and let us know what you think! (Please let us know, we want the boys here just as much as you do!)

Enjoy the rest of the holiday!

History:

Located in New York City’s historic Gramercy neighborhood, Gramercy Theatre opened in 1937. Gramercy spent just over 60 years as a movie theatre and art-house until 1998, when it was renovated into a 499-seat playhouse to present Off Broadway theatrical productions, the largest in the city at the time. In 2004, the theater was shut down.

In 2006, Live Nation bought the space with the intention of turning it into an intimate concert venue. The first performance under Live Nation was Stellastarr on March 7, 2007. Since then, Gramercy Theatre has hosted such artists as Steve Winwood, Counting Crows, Huey Lewis & The News, The Jonas Brothers, Macy Gray, Rufus Wainwright, Brand New, The Get Up Kids, Spoon, and Jay-Z. The theater offers an ultimate rarity among the city’s mid-sized music venues: a mix of actual seating in back with general admission standing room in front, and a sound system that caters well to both.
