Booking:

History:

Located in New York City’s historic Gramercy neighborhood, Gramercy Theatre opened in 1937. Gramercy spent just over 60 years as a movie theatre and art-house until 1998, when it was renovated into a 499-seat playhouse to present Off Broadway theatrical productions, the largest in the city at the time. In 2004, the theater was shut down.

In 2006, Live Nation bought the space with the intention of turning it into an intimate concert venue. The first performance under Live Nation was Stellastarr on March 7, 2007. Since then, Gramercy Theatre has hosted such artists as Steve Winwood, Counting Crows, Huey Lewis & The News, The Jonas Brothers, Macy Gray, Rufus Wainwright, Brand New, The Get Up Kids, Spoon, and Jay-Z. The theater offers an ultimate rarity among the city’s mid-sized music venues: a mix of actual seating in back with general admission standing room in front, and a sound system that caters well to both.

Venue #16: Irving Plaza!

Happy Monday! (Or at least we hope you've had a good Monday.)

For those who had the chance to see the boys in New Orleans this past weekend, it looked like a fun (and chilly) time! Today we wanted to feature a rather popular venue, that has a lot of great history and will appeal to everyone of all ages. Today, let's check out: Irving Plaza!

We're hoping to wrap up NYC within the next week or so, so stay tuned as we venture out to some new and exciting venues! (And if you know of any we should consider, let us know so we can feature it here!)

Remember, if you like a venue or have any questions/comments for us, please don't hesitate to contact us at BringBDtoEC@gmail.com and let us know what you think! (Please let us know, we want the boys here just as much as you do!)

The present, rebuilt structure opened in 1888 and spent the next 90 years finding its identity, transitioning from a German Theatre to a burlesque house, Yiddish theatre, French and Soviet film house, and Polish Army Vet community center.

In 1978, Irving Plaza was converted into a rock music venue and has since hosted acts such as Talking Heads, the Ramones, U2, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, establishing its history as New York City’s premier music venue. Today, Irving Plaza continues to be a major stepping stone on the career path of hundreds of artists every year.

For all new inquiries:
PLEASE DO NOT CALL US ON THE PHONE.
BOOKING IS DONE BY E-MAIL ONLY.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND MP3s VIA EMAIL.

—————————————————————————————————
Some tips for booking
1) If you are contacting us and have never played here before, please allow six (6) to eight (8) weeks for a reply.
2) No phone calls, please. Booking is done by E-MAIL ONLY.
3) Be patient.
4) No walk-ins. The Pianos Booking office is by appointment only.
5) In regards to booking headlining slots, we ask that you have played a few clubs in town before trying to set up a show at Pianos.
6) Write clear and concise emails that contain as much information as possible. We can’t help you unless you help us. It won’t do either of us any good if we book a show for you and you don’t bring anyone. Please be as honest as possible. This is not going to work if you exaggerate your draw in New York City.
7) If you are from the area, we generally book the club about six (6) to eight (8) weeks out. If you are contacting us before that time, understand that you may not get a reply until six (6) to eight (8) weeks out from the desired timeframe.
8) If you are a touring band that can headline and pack the room, please contact booking@pianosnyc.com and please allow one (1) to two (2) weeks for a reply. If you have not heard from anyone in that time, please feel free to follow-up with another email.
9) If you’re asking us to book you a show at the club, please do not book another show in Manhattan within 2 weeks on either side of your date (before or after your show here) We adhere to this rule, because past experience tells us that you will seriously injure your draw at BOTH shows.
10) We place weekly strip ads in the Village Voice, as well as post listings on all major NYC music blogs and websites. That said, you will need to do a fair amount of promo yourself including:
a. Sending us CDs and posters for the club and surrounding areas
b. Fliering throughout the area (if you are booked, we will discuss where you can and can’t flier in New York City due to fliering laws)
c. Using the tools available to promote your band on the Internet
d. Other ideas to bring people to your show
11) Bottom line: we want you to do your best to bring people out to your show.
12) If we book you a show and you cancel, don’t be surprised if it may take sometime before you are booked again.
13) We generally start bands out on days that fall early in the week. If you can show us that you can draw people early in the week, then we can look at days later in the week for your next show at the club. If you are looking to get booked for the first time, please don’t restrict yourself to just weekend dates.

To submit your band for consideration, please email Billy Jones and Steve Matrick at booking@pianosnyc.com.
Please include the following if applicable: – website/MySpace/etc. link – list of previous played venues in NYC – brief description of your music & instrumentation
*PIANOS ONLY ACCEPTS SUBMISSIONS FROM ARTISTS PERFORMING ORIGINAL MATERIAL – cover bands need not apply
We are very busy and get hundreds of emails a day. Wait two weeks at least before following up. If we dig your music we will be in touch right away.

History:

Pianos is a two-story bar/restaurant/live music venue in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan at 158 Ludlow Street. Its stage attracts local and national alternative rock groups as well as DJs, though a more typical performance consists of smaller name local and touring acts. Among the bands that have played at Pianos are The Seabellies, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Quiet loudly, Dexter Scott and Outasight.

Pianos follows the example of Arlene's Grocery by keeping the “Pianos” name and sign from the store that previously existed there when it was conceivable that a piano store might make it on the Lower East Side. Pianos has two stages: one that has upstairs in a funky loungelike setting, and one in a back room off the main floor.
